Unidentified male body found in woods of Shelby County

Shelby County Sheriff Newton Johnson reports that at approximately 6:15 p.m. on Sunday, May 20, 2012, a body was discovered in a wooded area near the Strong community. Johnson says that a passerby on a forest service road noticed the body in the woods and called 9-1-1 to report the incident to the Shelby County Sheriff's Department.
Johnson along with Deputies Jimmy Wagstaff and Pete Davis responded to the location and discovered the body of a black male in a wooded area, approximately one mile west of FM#139.
No identification was found on the body and no immediate cause of death could be determined at the scene.
Justice of the Peace, Precinct 5, Jim Powers was notified and came to the scene, where an autopsy was ordered. Community Funeral Home was contacted and transported the body to the Medical Examiner's Office in Beaumont.
According to Johnson, investigators are now attempting to identify the victim. Anyone with information that can help identify the victim should call the Shelby County Sheriff's Department at (936) 598-5600.
