THIBODAUX - A few hours after pushing back the start of Saturday's Southland Conference baseball game between Northwestern State and Nicholls State was moved from 2 o'clock to 6:30, the game was postponed because of the weather and the two teams will now play a doubleheader at 1 on Sunday to finish off the series.

The Demons dropped a 4-3 decision to the Colonels in Friday night's opener despite starting pitcher Mason Melotakis striking out a career-high 14 batters - one shy of the single-game school record.  NSU also outhit the Colonels by a 13-6 margin but left nine runners stranded on base.

NSU, who is currently in ninth place in the conference standings, is trying to play its way into the eight-team postseason conference tournament that gets underway May 23 at Texas State.
