House Education Committee Approves HB 609

By: Marquel Sennet
Updated: April 19, 2012

The controversy surrounding independent school districts continues at the state capitol.  State Representative Alan Seabaugh, who represents Caddo Parish authored House Bill 609.

If the bill passes, a statewide vote would no longer be required to form independent school districts.  Only people who live within the proposed district and the existing district they're trying to pull away from would vote.

The house education committee approved the bill.    We will continue following this story as this bill moves forward in the legislature.
