The Alexander Learning Center in Caddo Parish is a school like no other. Here, older students behind in class and children with severe handicaps get a second chance at an education.
Teachers say every day is a challenge but its worth the effort, since the ALC is known for turning lives around.
W.T. Lewis in Bossier is an elementary school at the top of the class. One of the best in the state, administrators say students succeed because of community support. In fact, when the school opened four years ago almost every classroom was sponsored by local residents and businesses, helping pay for high tech gadgets.
And while the approach may be different, both schools say their goal is to make sure students have the tools and the chance to re-write their futures.
