Demons stage first scrimmage Saturday morning

NATCHITOCHES - Northwestern State's first extended scrimmage of spring football practice will encompass the second half of Saturday morning's practice in Turpin Stadium, with the roughly 50-snap session projected to start about 11 a.m., said fourth-year Demons head coach Bradley Dale Peveto on Friday.

The Demons will start their workout at 9:40 and will drill in full gear for more than an hour before the scrimmage unfolds, he said. It is open to the public at no charge.

"It will be a very fundamental day," said Peveto. "We'll do a bunch of matchup stuff, 1-on-1s against each other, 7-on-7, inside, a good fundamental practice. Then it's going to be a move-the-ball scrimmage, early down competition. The offense has a goal of getting four yards on first down, the defense wants to hold them to less. It's gonna be fun."

NSU went into its fourth of 15 spring workouts Friday afternoon. So far, Peveto has liked what he's seen from the Demons.

"I just like the mindset of our team so far. They're working hard, playing with great effort and I see a lot of young men getting better," he said.
