The bill would have allowed more companies to come into the market, driving prices down. State representative Billy Montgomery sponsored the bill. He says the bill failed because the state`s police jury association and municipalities were against it.
"I was just trying to get the consumer a fair shake in this. They sort of took a hit on today."
Montgomery says under the Cox cable franchise, which controls most of the cable market in Louisiana get five percent of what the customer pays is given back to municipalities in the state.
According to Montgomery now the people the bill was suppose to protect will have to pay.
