NSU falls 8-1 to Texas A&M on Wednesday afternoon

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - For the second time in two days, a big scoring inning by Texas A&M rallied the fifth-ranked Aggies to an 8-1 baseball win over Northwestern State Wednesday afternoon and sweeping the two-game series.

The Demons (2-6) led 1-0 after the first inning and after trailing 2-1 through four, Texas A&M (8-1) scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to open up the game.

On Tuesday, NSU led 10-1 after five-and-a-half innings and gave up eight runs in the bottom of the sixth and four more in the seventh and lost 14-10.

NSU starting pitcher Andrew Adams (0-2) took the loss after he gave up six runs, four earned, on eight hits in four innings of action.  He walked one and struckout two.  Three Demon relievers threw the final four innings and held the Aggies to two runs and seven hits.

TAMU starter Corey Ray (1-0) notched his first win of the season after he threw seven innings and gave up one run and six hits, walked one and struckout four.

The Demons' offense managed just six hits in the game with Will Watson and Colin Bear getting two hits each.  Bear got the lone RBI in the game when he doubled in Drew Helenihi in the first inning to give the Demons a 1-0 lead.

Texas A&M finished with 15 hits in the game and was led by right fielder Tyler Naquin's 4-for-5 game with a RBI and two runs scored while the first four batters in the lineup finished the game 11-for-19 with five RBI and six runs scored.

The Demons will be back in action this weekend when they host Missouri State in a three-game series beginning Friday at 6:30 at Brown-Stroud Field.
