Caddo Sheriff's deputies and Shreveport Police officers in partnership with the Louisiana Passenger Safety Task Force conducted a Child Safety Seat Checkp event at the Child Development Center on Barksdale Air Force Base on Friday afternoon, February, 24, 2012.
Sixteen child restraint systems were checked and all had some form of misuse. This was the second event held at the base in as many weeks. A total of 29 seats were checked in the two events.
Automobile crashes are one of the top 10 causes of death for almost every age. Proper restraint use, whether child restraints for children or seat belts for adults, is the best way to reduce the chance of death and injury in the event of a crash.
Louisiana Law requires proper restraint use for all occupants of automobiles, pickups, vans, and SUVs.
The Caddo Sheriff's Office offers free child seat inspections by appointment at its substations and at Sheriff's Safety Town.
