The Bossier City Fire Department and Bossier City Firefighters Local 1051 have been honored by the Muscular Dystrophy Association for being its top fundraising fire department in the state of Louisiana for 2011.
The Bossier City Fire Department, through the efforts of Local 1051, raised $60,882 dollars for MDA last year, the most the department has ever collected for the organization in one year. In doing so, the department was presented with the MDA's 2011 Golden Boot of Excellence Award at the Professional Firefighters Association of Louisiana's annual convention held this past weekend in Baton Rouge. This marks the first time the Bossier City Fire Department has earned the top honor.
During 2011, Bossier City firefighters raised funds for MDA not only with the traditional Fill the Boot Campaign but through other efforts as well including the annual Vernon Gobert Memorial MDA Golf Tournament.
The Bossier City Fire Department and Local 1051 express their thanks to the public whose generosity made it possible to achieve this honorable recognition and, more importantly, helped fund research to fight Muscular Dystrophy and assist those afflicted with the disease.
