Local Programs Could Face Cuts

By: Import User
Updated: February 6, 2007
Treasury secretary John Kennedy sent Blanco a list of more than two hundred projects he thinks she should veto. And a few projects for Northwest Louisiana are on the chopping block. One of the projects that will lose funding is an affordable housing project sponsored by the city of Shreveport and several non-profit agencies. Its expected to lose one hundred thousand dollars. Money that would have been used for credit counseling, home buyer education and pre-construction cost. Now those in charge of the MLK partners project may have to face the possibility of reducing the number of homes being built and looking for some other source of funding. "To first afford someone an opportunity that would have never been able to buy a house to buy a house by addressing the credit issues. Construction for the affordable housing development project was supposed to start in the next couple of weeks. But with expected cuts, that may not be possible. Blanco said Thursday she is un-decided on vetoing any of the projects in house bill one, which outlines the spending for state government.
