The "Mighty Eighth" turns 70

The Eighth Air Force will celebrate the 70th Anniversary of the activation of the unit at 1 p.m. Feb. 1 at the Cyber Innovation Center in Bossier City, La.
"The Mighty Eighth" serves as the air component headquarters to USSTRATCOM for strategic deterrence, global strike, and operates USSTRATCOM's Joint Air Operations Center. The Joint Functional Component Command for Global Strike plans and executes strategic deterrence and global strike operations for USSTRATCOM.
During the ceremony, retired USAF Col. Lorenz Walker, Bossier City mayor, and Brian Crawford, representing Mayor Cedric Glover of Shreveport, will proclaim the day as "Mighty Eighth Day."
Maj. Gen Stephen Wilson, Eighth Air Force commander, will also give remarks during the ceremony.
