FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The No. 4 Arkansas baseball team held its first practice of the 2012 preseason on Friday afternoon at Baum Stadium.

Arkansas head coach Dave Van Horn met with members of the media before practice and talked about the great weather that greeted the team as spring practice opened.

"I think this is the first time in several years that we'll be able to get outside and get a lot of work in," Coach Van Horn said. "It seems like we've been pretty charmed this year. We'll be going full blast with practice and scrimmages this weekend."

The Razorbacks will enjoy three weeks of practice before getting the season started on Friday, Feb. 17 against Villanova. Coach Van Horn said the team is anxious to get underway.

"I know our players are looking forward to getting the season started," Coach Van Horn said. "I felt like in the middle of last year when the young guys were playing so well that 2012 could be a great year. I think we're ready to roll."

The Razorbacks practiced for three hours on Friday. After opening with some defensive drills, Arkansas closed the practice with an intrasquad scrimmage.

Arkansas will continue practice on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday's practice is scheduled to begin at approximately 12:30 p.m., while Sunday's is slated to start at approximately 1:30 p.m.
