Updated: January 18, 2012
Caddo Schools Superintendent Dr. Gerald Dawkins is speaking out about Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal's plan for education reform.

The governor unveiled his plans Tuesday (Jan. 18) at the Louisiana Association of Business and Industry's annual meeting.

His plans include the creation of new charter schools.

In a statement released Wednesday Dr. Dawkins said, "Caddo is not surprised. Gov. Jindal's plan was expected. He has been a long-time advocate of charters and private school formats. However, we sincerely believe that our public schools provide the best educational opportunities for all students and will continue to be competitive."

Gov. Jindal's plan also includes better pay for teachers who perform well and the firing of those who don't.

His reform plan will go before the Louisiana Legislature in the next regular session which begins Monday, March 12.
