Updated: January 9, 2012

The parents of Senior Airman Byron Bell, who died Thursday in Afghanistan, have released the following statement:

"We are very proud of our son Bryan. As a teen, he served his community as a volunteer firefighter with Fairfield Hose Company. From there he aspired to defend his country. He was dedicated to and passionate about his career as a U.S. Airman. He excelled in the technical competencies in his chosen career as an E.O.D. technician. He has always been our hero and now he died a hero of our country. We truly appreciate the outpouring of support, love and prayers of the military and our community."...
