Mooretown residents oppose oil and gas plant

Several politicians,
pastors and residents participated in a sometimes heated discussion in the Mooretown
neighborhood community meeting Thursday.
The issue was a proposed oil and gas facility hoping to locate in the
area.
The meeting was organized by state Rep.
Barbara Norton to provide a venue for residents to voice their opinion on the
proposed Weatherfield International facility, which is slated to be erected at
Hollywood and Jewella Avenues in Shreveport.
State Fire Marshal Butch Butch Browning was
there and told residents that the issue is local and "you've got to decide what
you want in your facility.
A Weatherford official said the company
has tried to answer resident concerns, and that "there's nothing unsafe about
what we are trying to do there."
He added that the company has followed
strict state and federal regulations for the facility.
Metropolitian Planning
commission is in charge of the approval process for the plant, which is on the
MPC's Jan. 11, 2012 agenda. Reported by
