Congressman John Fleming, scientists, and representatives from state agencies in Louisiana and Texas were all part of a panel discussion held at LSU Shreveport.

They gave their take on the problem, offered solutions and discussed how Salvinia is negatively impacting our area.

This green plant is invading bodies of water in the ArkLaTex.

It's a problem that's been increasing for years.

Monday representatives from Capitol Hill, state, and local agencies gathered to talk about it.

Some suggestions on how to fight Salvinia include:

"Lowering lakes, raising lakes, salianating, lakes, putting salt into them, using herbicides which are very expensive," says Congressman John Fleming.
