By: Nancy Cook
Updated: March 1, 2011

The LSU Shreveport Office of Multicultural Affairs will sponsor a lecture by Dr. Keffrelyn Brown, an education faculty member at the University of Texas at Austin, from 6:30 to 8 p.m.  Thursday on the third floor of  Noel Memorial Library. She will present an open lecture entitled: “Incorporating Multicultural Content into School Curricula.”

Brown is an assistant professor in UT’s Department of Curriculum and Instruction.  Her primary appointment is in Cultural Studies in Education.  She is an affiliate faculty member of the John L. Warfield Center for African and African American Studies and the Center for Women's and Gender Studies, both at the University of Texas at Austin.

A former elementary and middle school teacher, Dr. Brown also was a school administrator  and curriculum developer.  Her scholarly interests focus on understanding how pre-service and in-service teachers acquire, understand and use sociocultural knowledge to address the teaching of underserved student populations.

A question and answer session will be held followed by light refreshments.

Brown will also be available to meet with interested faculty members from 9:30 - 11:30  a.m. Friday in the LSUS Technology Center.
