Jump Rope Champions to perform on last day of MLK Tournament

The 2010 World Jump Rope Champions HSF Jump Force will entertain on “Tournament Championship Sunday,” at the 23rd Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Basketball Tournament.

     Tournament Championship Sunday is the culmination of the three-day event, which is sponsored by Shreveport Public Assembly and Recreation (SPAR), in conjunction with Caddo Parish Parks & Recreation, Academy Sports & Outdoors and Cumulus Broadcasting.

       It will be held beginning at noon Sunday, Feb. 20, in the Southern University-Shreveport gymnasium. This event will showcase all the MLK, Jr. division championship games, determined by games played on the first two days of the tournament. Also, individuals 16 and older will be eligible to register for a $5,000 Half Court Shot during half-time of the Pro-Am championship game.

      Other Sunday entertainment will include the 2010 State Farm Bayou Classic Greek Show Champions, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Step Team from Grambling State University and S Shreveport's own, Mosley Movements.

      On Tournament Championship Sunday, SPAR will provide a fitness fun zone and community resource booths for the entire family. In addition, free popcorn and cotton candy for children ages 10 and under from 1-4 p.m.

   The three-day tournament, which begins Feb. 18, is designed to unite men, women and youth of all ethnic backgrounds for three days of fun, fitness and community unity.

   More than $3,000 in cash prizes and awards will be given to championship teams.  More than 100 teams (Pro Am to Youth) from five southern states will be participating, featuring the toughest roundballers in the south.

   All games will be played at area gyms city-wide throughout Shreveport.

   Gym sites include:

·         Centenary College

·         Fitness Center, Lakeside Park

·         LSU-Shreveport,

·         Princess Park,

·         Southern Hills

·         Southern University-Shreveport  

 

Admission to all tournament and championship games is "free" with one or more non-perishable canned food items in support of SPAR’s Annual Canned Food Drive that benefits the Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana. For additional tournament information call 318.673.7748 or visit www.mySPAR.org.
