A scholar, author, media personality and popular professor of sociology at Georgetown University will kickoff Black History Month events at Grambling University at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Frederick C. Hobdy Assembly Center on Grambling’s campus.

Dr. Michael Eric Dyson is a two-time NAACP Inage Award winner and was named by Ebony magazine as one of 100 most influential black Americas. His talk show, “The Michael Eric Dyson Show,” can be heard at 1 p.m.  Monday through Friday on Grambling’s KGRM 90.1 FM.

Dyson bridges gaps between generations by connecting civil rights identity to hip-hop culture, while forging links between older and younger Americans, especially black Americans.

As a cultural critic, Dyson educates the general public on the significance of race theory, social analysis, cultural criticism, hip hop and sexual politics – not only in understanding black culture, but American culture, as well. Dyson reaches beyond race, addressing the universal commonality of American concern.
