General Motors Buyout Deadline Looming

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
The deadline is looming for longtime General Motors workers to decide if they will stay or go. More than 30,000 UAW workers are voluntarily participating in early retirement programs across the country. Some have even traded years of hard work for a lump sum of cash. It`s all part of a plan to bring financial stability to the institution. Last year, G.M. was 10.6 billion dollars in the hole. For workers that decide to go with the buyout offer...more than ten years with the company means a payment of 140,000 dollars. Workers have until midnight Friday to make their decision.
