Two Shreveport Officers Attacked. Search For Suspect Continues

By: David Brazelton
Updated: January 12, 2011
Police stopped a vehicle around 9 p.m. near Fuller Street at Linwood Avenue in the Morningside neighborhood.  During the stop officers spotted narcotics inside the car. As the officers tried to arrest the driver, he began to resist violently. During the struggle, both officers and the man fell to the ground, causing one officer Jones to lose her grip on her department-issued Taser. The man was able to pick up the stun device and then attacked the other officer with it. The man then ran off on foot.
The two officers suffered minor injuries. Officers who arrived to help the two found the Taser a short distance away but were unable to locate the attacker.
Police have identified 24 year-old Johnny L. Cannon of the 1500 block of Belwood Street in Shreveport as the man who attacked the officers and since have obtained a warrant for his arrest.
If you have information on Cannon and his whereabouts should call Shreveport Police detectives at (318) 673-6955.
