Corps to Recycle Christmas Trees at Millwood, Tri Lakes
Ashdown residents can start the New Year right by recycling their Christmas trees.
After the holidays real Christmas trees can be put to good use by donating them to the Army Corps of Engineers for fish habitat in Millwood Lake or any of the Tri Lakes.
Local tree farmers are also encouraged to drop off any leftover trees as well.
Trees can be dropped off from Dec. 26 through Jan. 16 on Lake Millwood at Wilton Landing on Highway 71, White Cliffs boat ramp, or Okay Landing boat ramp and any boat launch locations on the Tri Lakes. Drop-off points will be designated with signs.
The Corps would like to put these trees to good use by submerging bundles of trees in areas of the lake for fish structure which will provide fish with breeding areas and escape cover, giving them a better chance to reach maturity.
Donated trees will be offered to the general public at the drop-off points.
Any trees remaining at these points after the drop-off deadline of Jan. 16 will be submerged by the Corps.
To protect our natural resources, remember to only bring natural trees, not artificial trees. Please remove any lights, ornaments and other obstructions before taking it to a drop-off point.
