Police searching for armed robber of Community Bank

Shreveport Police are searching for the man who robbed a downtown Shreveport bank this morning.

At approximately 10:05 a.m. this morning, patrol officers were dispatched out to the Community Bank of Louisiana in the 400 block of Travis Street relative to a robbery. Upon arrival, officers learned that a male suspect entered the bank, approached a teller there and raised his shirt to reveal a handgun in the waistband of his pants. The robber demanded money from the employee and then fled the scene of the crime after receiving an undisclosed amount of cash. No one was injured during the robbery.

A concerned citizen was able to provide responding officers with a license plate number and description of the vehicle the suspect used as a get-away car. A short time later, patrol officers found the vehicle, a Ford Taurus, parked and abandoned on a parking lot near the intersection of Jewella Avenue and Frederick Street.

Following up on leads, investigators tentatively identified the suspect they believe robbed the bank and received information that he might be in a house on Frederick Street. Officers surrounded the home and ultimately entered the residence after a search warrant was obtained. The suspect was not inside the home.

At this time detectives are working to obtain an arrest warrant for the suspect. He is described as a black male five feet 10 inches tall weighing about 200 pounds. He was wearing a grey hoodie and gloves at the time of the robbery. Anyone with any information regarding this robbery is urged to call Shreveport Police Detective Richard Turpen at 318-673-6955 or Shreveport-Caddo Parish Crime Stoppers at 318-673-7373.
