AEP SWEPCO power outage causes NBC 6 news blackout

By: Nancy Cook
Updated: December 21, 2010

NBC 6 along with more than 3,400 businesses and homes were without power Tuesday afternoon due to what AEP SWEPCO called a "grid" outage.  In addition to making it impossible for the station to broadcast the 5 p.m. news, the power outage affected north Shreveport, along with parts of the western section of the city.

An AEP SWEPCO spokesperson told NBC the outage was caused by a piece of faulty equipment.  Shreveport police directed traffic at busy intersections affected by the outage.

NBC 6 Chief Engineer Francis Fasuyi worked with station employees to activate the station’s generator in order to bridge the gap until complete power is restored.
