The news of a pay raise is starting to sink in with some City of Shreveport employees. $2 million of the City`s surplus money has been approved for the raises.
Starting in July, workers will see about a 75-dollar increase every paycheck; which means an 18-hundred dollar raise for the year.
Mayor Keith Hightower says the workers deserve a little bit extra. "This was an opportunity for us to really bump that amount up and give the guys that were at the low end of the pay scale as much as the guys at the top end," said Hightower.
The mayor says the pay increase shouldn`t become a financial burden for the city. The money is taken from recurring revenue.
