Motorcycle crash in Red River Parish claims life

A single motorcycle crash claimed the life of 55-year-old Maurice D. Polston of Walker, LA Sunday evening.  The crash on LA 480, 5.5 miles south of Coushatta at its intersection of Taylor Road in River Red Parish.

According to investigating troopers, 55-year-old Polston was driving north on LA 480 while operating a black 1984 Harley Davidson motorcycle when he entered a right hand curve. For unknown reasons, Polston veered across the center line, ran off the left side of the roadway and entered a grassy ditch area where he was ejected.  

Although wearing a helmet, the victim was not wearing an approved U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) safety helmet at the time of the crash. The helmet came off of his head after he was ejected. Polston was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Red River Parish Coroner.  

Routine toxicology test results are pending and the crash remains under investigation.

State Police Troop G is requesting that anyone who may have witnessed this crash and can provide information to please contact troopers at 318.741.7411 or toll free at 866.853.6580, or at email Troop G at lspg@dps.la.gov.

Troop G troopers have investigated 36 fatal crashes for the year of 2010, resulting in 41 fatalities.
