A Shreveport man probably wishes he had stayed on his side of the Red River and kept his mouth shut Saturday night, after Bossier deputies arrested him for DWI and assault and threatening to “go straight outlaw,” among other things.
Mark A. Brown, 49, of the 100 block of Fountain View in Shreveport, was arrested following an altercation at the American Legion Post on Highway 527 in Elm Grove. Deputies responded to a complaint of fighting at the post.
The caller advised that the suspect was fleeing the scene and gave a description of the vehicle he was driving. Deputies observed the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop in the 5400 block of Hwy. 527. Upon stopping, Brown exited the vehicle and had difficulty standing without assistance. He swayed heavily and leaned against the vehicle for balance. A strong odor of alcoholic beverage was coming from his person.
After being read his rights as per Miranda, Brown refused to perform a field sobriety test, stating that he was “too drunk” to be driving and his blood alcohol level was “above the legal limit.”
Brown also stated that he knew that he was going to be arrested for DWI.
He got that right and then some.
Deputies arrested Brown and took him back to the original scene where the news wasn’t good.
There, deputies learned Brown had hit his girlfriend in the mouth with a closed fist. Twice.
He also attempted, unsuccessfully, to hit her with his vehicle as she was walking in the parking lot. He then intentionally backed his vehicle into another car, which Brown’s girlfriend’s son just happened to be in.
At that point, Brown exited his vehicle and approached the girlfriend’s son while aggressively swinging half of a pool cue. The victim struck Brown in self-defense, and Brown got back into his vehicle to flee the scene.
The arresting deputies made note that Brown’s behavior was extremely poor while in custody. Brown then threatened to go “go straight outlaw” and “kill four or five” people upon his release. If that wasn’t enough to discourage any sort of relationship with his captors, Brown then urinated and spit in the deputy’s vehicle multiple times during the trip to the Bossier Maximum Security Facility.
Brown is charged with DWI fourth offense, domestic abuse battery, simple criminal property damage and four counts of aggravated assault. His bond is set at $25000.
