RUSTON - The Louisiana Tech Lady Techsters (6-26; 0-15 WAC) were beaten by San Jose State (18-10; 9-6 WAC) Thursday night in the Thomas Assembly without junior outside hitter Shannon Phillips.
Phillips, who only lacks 24 kills from joining Tech`s 1000 kill club, was sidelined with an injury. Phillips also leads the WAC in double-doubles with 21.
"Adversity makes us stronger and builds character," Tech head coach Heather Mazeitis said of one of her team`s injuries. "Right now, these girls are building some serious character. They`re in a storm right now, and they`re weathering it."
Going into the halftime locker room, the Spartans held a two game lead over the Techsters with wins of 30-22 and 30-17. The Spartans came back out and won game three 30-24.
Senior Ambra Hayes finished the night with 16 kills and six digs. Freshman Samantha Crowder finished the night with a total of five blocks.
The Techsters will wrap up the 2006 regular season with a home match against Fresno State in the Lambright Blue Gym. Tip off is set for 2 p.m.
