Walmart Superstore Opens In Mansfield

One question alot of people around Mansfield have, is this store going to put others out of business? Walmart supercenters offer everything from groceries to school supplies to leashes. But with recent negative headlines about the retail giant, you might think that Mansfield's grand opening came with mixed emotions. Well, think again. The people we spoke with in Mansfield are glad the Walmart is open. Despite the seemingly common argument that Walmart hurts small business by attracting all the customers. According to Wal-mart Watch, a watchgroup focused on Walmart, hundreds of mom and pop stores shut up shop in Iowa when the retail giant landed there back in 2004. But in Mansfield, Walmart seems to be a golden opportunity. A small restaurant just filled two job openings, they were left open by employees who wanted to take advantage of Walmart's benefit package. Small businesses we visited with tell us they do have a strategy in place for times when new competition comes to town. They say they stick to offering good customer service. We tried getting comment from walmart's cooperate offices about this story, they did not return our call.
