Sports Lose Opener of Playoffs

The Shreveport Sports found themselves trailing 6-0 in the first inning before they came to bat, but fought back to tie the game at 7-7 after six only to lose 12-7 to Fort Worth in the first game of the Southern Division playoffs in the American Association. The Cats scored six runs on seven hits off Shreveport starter Josh Neitz, but the Sports scored two in the bottom of the first and added a run in the second to cut the lead to 6-3. In the fourth inning the Sports scored twice to pull within a run at 6-5, but Fort Worth added a run in the top of the fifth to take a 7-5 lead. Shreveport tied the game in the bottom of the fifth inning on a RBI double by Tommy Bryant and a sac fly RBI by Enohel Polanco. The contest remained tied until the seventh inning when the Cats scored two runs and they added three more runs in the eighth to make the final score 12-7. The second game of the best of five series will be played Tuesday at Fair Grounds Field. Game time 6:05 pm.
