SPORTS SWEEP DOUBLEHEADER

The Shreveport Sports moved into second place in the South Division of the American Association as they swept a doubleheader Friday from Coastal Bend 6-1 and 4-0. It also gives the Sports a five game winning streak, The Sports got complete game wins from Eric Wikstrom in the opener, his tenth win of the year and Josh Neitz with a four-hit shutout in the second game, picked up his first win in the second half. In the opener, Chad Gambill connected on a two-run home run in the first inning to give the Sports a 2-1 lead and the Sports never looked back. Shreveport scored two more runs in the third and fourth innings to seal the victory. Eric Wikstrom became the first ten game winner for the Sports this season, retired the final nine batters. Josh Neitz walked only one, scattered four hits and had a season high seven strikeouts. It was his second complete game shutout against Coastal Bend this season. The Sports and Coastal Bend will close out the series with a single game Saturday at Fair Grounds Field. Game time 7:05 pm.
