So much for hitting the Sonic drive-thru if you're passing through Cleveland, Georgia.

A sinkhole has swallowed up part of the structure along with a good portion of the parking lot and a car wash next to it.

David Murphy, Director of White County Emergency Management, blames the recent downpour of rain.

He says an eight foot wide storm drain collapsed and water eroded away huge sections of the property within hours.

"There were people inside the Sonic when the parking lot started giving way. Everyone got out without injury," Murphy said.

The worry now is what additional rain could do to the washed out property and other areas in and around Cleveland.

"The National Weather Service says that we could get possibly two more inches of rain overnight. With the ground so saturated already it could cause more urban flooding," said Murphy.
