ASTROS PLACE PALMEIRO ON BEREAVEMENT LIST

HOUSTON, TX - The Houston Astros announced today that the club has placed outfielder Orlando Palmeiro on the bereavement list because of the death of his father. To take his place on the 25-man roster, the club has recalled outfielder Jason Lane from Triple A Round Rock. The announcement was made by General Manager Tim Purpura. Major League Baseball bereavement list rules state that a player must remain on the list for a minimum of three days and a maximum of seven days. Palmeiro, 37, is hitting .213 (16x75) with six RBI in his third season with the Astros (2004-06), including one double and one triple. In 12 Major League seasons from 1995-06, he has hit .275 (602x2188) with 12 home runs and 209 RBI, including 105 doubles and 14 triples. Lane, 29, has hit .205 (46x224) with 11 home runs and 30 RBI in 72 games for the Astros in 2006. In 12 games for Round Rock, he has hit .261 (12x46) with one home run and 11 RBI. In 388 career Major League games from 2002-06, Lane has hit .256 (249x973) with 49 home runs and 147 RBI, including a career-high 26 home runs and 78 RBI for the 2005 National League Champion Astros.
