LUCERNE, Switzerland - Xavier Carter, a seven-time NCAA champion for the Tigers, picked up his first professional victory Friday, winning the 100-meter dash at the 20th annual EAA Spitzenleichtathletik. Carter secured the win in just 10.11 seconds, fending off Jamaicas Ainsley Waugh who earned runner-up honors in 10.15. Carters time is the second fastest of his career as it came up just shy of his personal best of 10.09 posted last month at the NCAA Championships in Sacramento, Calif. Carters season continues this week as he is scheduled to run the 200 meters at the Athletissima 2006 in Lausanne, Switzerland on Tuesday. Carter will go head-to-head with some of the worlds best in that race as World silver medalist and U.S. champion, Wallace Spearmon, and World junior record holder, Usain Bolt, are also in the field. Following that race, Carter will travel to Rome on Friday for the Golden Gala where he is expected to run in the 400 meters.
