BOSSIER CITY, LA - The Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs of the Central Hockey League today announced the first member of their 2006-2007 roster as defenseman Konrad Brand has signed with the team for the upcoming season. The 6`3" 245-pound blueliner from Cold Lake, Alberta will enter his fifth professional season and first in Bossier-Shreveport.. Brand appeared in 55 games for the Fort Worth Brahmas last season and spent the previous three seasons with San Angelo. The 26-year old is a physical defensive defenseman who was also among the Brahmas` penalty minute leaders last year with 128. In the 1997 NHL Entry Draft, Brand was selected in the ninth round by the Los Angeles Kings. Prior to turning pro, he played for the Alberta Institute of Technology, the University of Alberta, and had a five-year junior career in the Western Hockey League. "Signing Konrad is a great start to our recruiting this summer and our building of this year`s roster," said Head Coach Scott Muscutt. "He`s a really big d-man that brings some toughness to our blue line and a steady defensive presence. I think he`ll be a great fit to our lineup, he`s familiar with this league, and we`re glad to have him in a Mudbug uniform." This afternoon, the Mudbugs also unveiled their official tenth year anniversary logo which features the traditional Mudbug in front of a purple "X" and the years "1997-2007" listed at the bottom. The logo will be used throughout the upcoming season to help the Mudbugs celebrate ten years in the Ark-La-Tex. "A Decade of Excellence" is the slogan that will also be used on all team promotional materials. The Mudbugs are currently preparing for their 10th anniversary season, which will begin in October and will feature the 2007 Central Hockey League All-Star Game at the CenturyTel Center.
