BATON ROUGE, La. - LSU senior outfielder Quinn Stewart was named Monday to the American Baseball Coaches Association All-South Region first team. Stewart, a native of Rowlett, Texas, completed the 2006 season as the SEC leader in home runs with 23. A first-team all-conference selection, he batted .287 with nine doubles, three triples and a team-best 56 RBI. Stewart finished No. 2 in the nation in homers, trailing only James Madison slugger Kellen Kulbacki, who launched 24 dingers. As a fifth-year college senior, Stewart was eligible to sign a free-agent deal with the major league team of his choice, and he came to terms with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays last week. Stewart, who transferred to LSU prior to the 2003 season from Odessa (Texas) Junior College, started 129 games for the Tigers and recorded a .281 (136-for-484) career batting average. He produced 25 doubles, six triples, 33 homers, 99 RBI and a .562 slugging percentage. Stewart tied an LSU single-game record on March 11 of this season when he unloaded three home runs in a victory over Stetson in Alex Box Stadium. 2006 ABCA All-South Region Teams FIRST TEAM Catcher - Sean Coughlin, Jr., Kentucky First Base - Ryan Strieby, Jr., Kentucky Second Base - John Shelby, Jr., Kentucky Shortstop - Zack Cozart, So., Ole Miss Third Base - Pedro Alvarez, Fr., Vanderbilt Designated Hitter - Mike Bianucci, Fr., Auburn Outfield - Collin Cowgill, So., Kentucky Outfield - Emeel Salem, Jr., Alabama Outfield - Quinn Stewart, Sr., LSU Starting Pitcher - Wade LeBlanc, Jr., Alabama Starting Pitcher - David Price, So., Vanderbilt Starting Pitcher - Nick Schmidt, So., Arkansas Relief Pitcher - Daniel Best, Sr., Southern Miss SECOND TEAM Catcher - J.P.
