“The crossing will take place sometime between 8:30 a.m. and noon,” said Kenny Icenhower, area engineer for the Texas Department of Transportation in Texarkana. “We will close the outside eastbound lane first and then the entire eastbound side as the crane is walked across to the median. Then will have a similar process on the westbound lanes with the inside westbound lane closed first and then the entire westbound side as the crane finishes it crossing to the north side of the highway.”
Full closures of the traffic lanes should not take longer than 15-20 minutes at a time, but local motorists may want to avoid the area Thursday morning or expect and plan for congestion and delays.
“We ask that local motorists use extra caution driving in and around the construction zones as other motorists unfamiliar with the area may try to find alternate routes,” Icenhower said. “Moving schedules can also change due to unexpected problems, but we will try to keep traffic moving as efficiently as possible.”
