Mayor Under Fire

Greenwood Mayor Ernest Lampkins says Monday morning his home was under attack. "My daughter who`s room is on this side heard the first shot. But they were close together like boom... boom," said Lampkins. Shortly after 12:30, someone fired two shotguns shells through the living room window. "I looked over at this window and I began to see the holes up here and I said `We`ve been shot!`," said Lampkins. The mayor says this isn`t the first time he`s been targeted. He says he`s been facing opposition since day one of his administration. "More recently someone put a huge for sale sign in my yard... indicating that is was for sale... In other words.. you need to get out of town... and then of course this happens," said Lampkins. During the first week of his administration Mayor Lampkins says he was locked out of his office. Ever since then he says he`s been receiving opposition from a group of concerned citizens calling themselves the "Committee on Good Government". "They`ve been anti-anything this administration does from day one," said Lampkins. Right now Greenwood Police don`t have any suspects. They`ve brought in Caddo Sheriff`s detectives to help further the investigation. "Right now we`re still im the stage of putting all our information together to determine the motive for this thing. At this point it would appear to be intimidation," said Greenwood Police Chief J.D. Dunn. In the meantime, Mayor Lampkins hopes the "intimidators" won`t take things any further. "I can handle the situation at town hall. But my wife and child should not be subjected to shootings in my home." No one was injured in the shooting and the case is still under investigation. Ernest Lampkins has been mayor of Greenwood for 2-and-a-half years.
