(Washington, DC) -- President Obama will unveil his plans for NASA next month.
The White House says Obama will do so at a conference in Florida in April.
His current budget proposal cancels a program which would have taken American astronauts back to the moon after an independent panel found doing so was "fundamentally un-executable." Obama wants NASA to put a focus on pursuing technology to go beyond low-Earth orbit and to "push the frontiers of innovation" according to a White House statement.
The White House says NASA for too long has underinvested in new technology and had unrealistic budgets.
