F-B-I Investigates Allegations At Bayou Dorcheat

Updated: February 5, 2007
On Monday the F-B-I started looking into allegations made by inmates who claim they were mistreated by the warden at the prison. Agents showed up at the Webster parish sheriff`s office early in the morning. Sheriff Gary Sexton says they caught him by surprise. "Certainly we had no indication that this investigation was coming on and we opened our doors to them and our files and our personnel and to the people they wanted to talk to. Some inmates are saying the warden sprayed them with mace for disciplinary reasons. Another inmate is alleging he was tasered by Warden Steve Reiser. During their visit to Webster parish agents spoke with some of the guards at Bayou Dorcheat, inmates and the warden himself. Who says the allegations are not true. Sheriff Gary Sexton also believes all the allegations against the warden are false and plans to support his employees. "I stand by my people, until it`s proven different. I stand by them." Once the F-B-I is finished investigating they plan to turn over the information collected to the U-S Justice Department. Meanwhile, the sheriff says the department of correction comes in once a month and audits the prison.
