Voyeuristic Vision

A New York artist is creating controversy with each click of the camera.

Yasmine Chatila photographs people unknowingly in their apartments, and then displays the photographs in a gallery.

Now these private moments are for sale at this upper east side gallery.

"The idea is to capture the life of New York but from the inside the real genuine things that are going on," said gallery owner Asher Edelman.

Some of the work shows nudity, like a shot called "The Bathroom Girl".

"She photographed this woman many times and this woman always had the shades open and stood in front of the window naked," Edelman said.

After capturing a shot the artist spends hours retouching the pictures, blurring and even painting over faces and changing the building facades to protect their anonymity.

Sometimes the photographer will camp out across the street from an apartment building just to get an idea of what their private life might be like.

While some may argue this is voyeurism to the extreme, or even a violation of Peeping Tom laws, others point out the fact that subjects might be exhibitionists.
