Youree Construction Hurts Local Businesses

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
Construction along Shreveport`s Youree Drive has turned into a traffic nightmare. "I would just rather not come here than go through this mess," said frustrated driver Becky O`Connor And drivers aren`t the only one`s feeling the frustration. Lewis` Gifts is just one of the many locally owned businesses having to re-route their customers around the traffic mess. "The biggest frustration is the time of year. Obviously we wish they had started it after Christmas, because traffic is triple or quadruple what it normally is," said manager Catherine Hobbs. Detours and blocked entrances have deterred potential customers during the busiest shopping season of the year. Some area business owners say it`s affecting their bottom line. Many have resorted to mailing and faxing out maps for their customers with alternate routes that don`t include Youree Drive. The road work is expected to last about a year.
