Updated: January 7, 2009
Officials at one school in Bossier Parish are doing what they can to keep children safe when they`re walking to and from school. The principal at Meadowview elementary in Bossier City has been researching how to make school routes safer. She found the state`s department of transportation has a program schools can apply for. It`s called the safe routes to school program. The overall goal is make walking and bicycling to school safer for children. Through the safe route to schools program school officials at Meadowview will work on improving sidewalks around the campus while educating teachers, parents and students about how to stay safe when they`re walking or riding to school. Teachers think the program can also help prevent accidents.
