Donations Needed to Send to Troops Overseas

Military troops are reporting lower morale but there is a local organization hoping to brighten the holidays. Operation Support Our Troops will be sending Christmas boxes but still need donations. The non-profit organization supports deployed and wounded troops int he Middle East by sending encouragement, non-perishable food and hygiene items several times a year.  Its motto is "As long as they're there, we'll be here."

The deadline for all items to be sent this year for Christmas is Saturday, November 21 by 10:00 am.  Items can be dropped off any day this week between 9-5:30 to American Climate Controlled Storage at 6721 Pines Rd., Shreveport.

Chairman Shirley Olivieri-Mathies says these are the best items to send at Christmas:

Instant hot chocolate

Instant coffee/powdered creamer/sugar

Instant oatmeal/grits

Cup-a-soup & Ramen noodle soup (NO PORK flavored)

tuna in foil packs

snack crackers

energy bars

Pringles potato chips

Halloween and Christmas candy (chocolate OK)

disposable razors

medicated powder

chapstick/blistex/carmex

athletes foot cream

tube socks

small Christmas decorations (nothing overtly religious)

notes of encouragement

monetary donations to help with shipping costs

(checks made out to Operation Support Our Troops are TAX-DEDUCTIBLE)
