breaking news
In Bossier Parish, taxpayer money is being saved every time a parish prisoner gets a toothache. A new dental program keeps money in your pocket, while keeping prisoners out of pain. And with a fairly new drug trend sweeping the parish, Bossier authorities say the program is necessary.
Inmates put in a request for what they need and the service is provided. Tthe doctor who comes to the correctional facility only extracts teeth and there is a great need for the serivces. Most inmates who end up behind bars have been drug users in the past.
For meth users the dentist becomes even more vital because the materials that go into making meth are toxic and hard on teeth. If inmates don`t get routine dental care the problem only gets worse.
In a nine month span the Bossier Sheriff and police jury would have spent 60 thousand dollars on dental services for inmates. Now they are only spending half of that.
