Nearly 200 ft. Cross is Going Up

By: Lynn Vance
Updated: October 23, 2009
The 199 ft. Central Assembly of God cross is on its way up. The first section of the cross is up. The second section was to be erected on Thursday. According to the pastor’s secretary Diane Smith, work had to be suspended because of the rain. She went on to say that she felt the work would continue when the rain ends. The church had to raise over $650,000 to build the cross. The area had to be rezoned because there were to be no structures taller than 45 feet. In February of 2009 the Bossier Parish Police Jury voted unanimously to approve an amendment to their development code to make a special exception for the use of monuments. The church is also planning a memorial garden to be built at a later date.
