Becky Smith is headed to Central Florida.
"Because my grandson is in Orlando. And I want to see him every two to three months," Smith.
But Becky has always had to change planes to get there-until now. She`s one of the first passengers to enjoy Allegiant Air`s non-stop service to Orlando.
"I`ve been several times on other airlines, so I`m on the maiden flight," Smith.
Wednesday morning Shreveport Airport Authority had a press conference to celebrating the new service.
"This is a wonderful day for the city of Shreveport. Doors have been opened where we can go anywhere in the world and this is just the beginning," said Airport Authority Chairman Dr. C.O. Simpkins.
The Airport Authority hopes Allegiant Air will open the doors to bring more carriers to Shreveport Regional Airport.
"We`ve talked to AirTran. We`ve talked to Southwest. We`re going to continue that. And I think that by bringing on a carrier like Allegiant. They look in the market and say there`s something there... Allegiant moved in there...They`re doing well. Maybe it`s something we need to look at," said Director of Airports, Roy Miller.
And that could mean more non-stop flight options in the future. But for travelers like Becky Smith, it`s all about the convenience.
"We`ll be there in 2 hours. I can`t wait."
Travelers wishing to go to Orlando can still take advantage of introductory fares starting as low as $59 one way. Allegiant Air has been offering non-stop service to Las Vegas since January. Flights to both destinations depart twice a week.
