$4.4 Million to be Spent on Cass County Courthouse

By: Lynn Vance
Updated: October 13, 2009
A $4.4 million grant will be used to revamp the Cass County Courthouse. The classic revival brick style building is more than 148 years old. In 1933 a fire damaged the upper floors and the courtroom in the center of the building. Repairs were completed in 1934 and a third floor was added. The brick was later covered with stucco and painted white with tan trim. The historic Cass County Courthouse will get more than just a face lift. The electrical and plumbing systems will be updated, as well as returning the interior and exterior to the 1934 appearance. County Commissioner Paul Conthren says, the project which is being funded by a grant from the Texas historic Commission will take about 16 months to complete.
