The new mayor has not taken office yet, but there are already some changes in store. The Shreveport police department made a big announcement Monday. Chief of police Mike Campbell announced he was retiring for the police department after more than thirty years of serve. He said he was leaving to spend more time with his family. Thirty year police veteran assistant chief Mike Vansant will be filling in for Campbell until a replacement is found. The process could take up to four months. It will be up to mayor elect Cedric Gglover to make that choice. No word yet on who the replacement will be, but Glover says they might be from Shreveport. Mayor Keith Hightower was also at Monday`s press conference he told everyone not to expect any major changes at the police department. Campbell said on his way out the people of Shreveport should feel confident they`re being well protected by the police department.
