(Kuwait city, Kuwait) Governor Kathleen Bianco`s tour for Asia and the Mideast may have borne some lasting fruit.
Louisiana and the Kuwait Petroleum Corp. signed an agreement Sunday to study the possibility of Kuwait building a refinery in Louisiana. It would be the first new refinery in the U.S. in 30 years.
Blanco and the chairman of Kuwait Petroleum Co., signed the agreement - called a memorandum of understanding - in Kuwait City on Sunday.
They agreed to conduct confidential studies and research on the feasibility of the refinery over the next two years. Kuwait would supply the refinery with oil.
"They are more than just casually interested," Blanco said. "They want to contribute to the recovery of Louisiana."
